Three things, done every week, in yards like yours.
We do not build pools or outdoor kitchens. We keep lawns and beds looking like someone lives there and cares, and we fix the water problems that come with Piedmont clay.
Mow and maintain
Same crew, same day every week. Mow, string-trim, edge the walks and drive, blow it clean. Fescue kept at three and a half inches so it survives July.

Fresh edges, weeds pulled, then hardwood mulch or long-needle pine straw laid the way it should be, deep enough to matter and off the siding.

Drainage and clay
Standing water after every storm, a soggy side yard, a downspout that dumps at the foundation. We regrade, bury downspouts and run French drains that actually drain.

Fescue does not care what the bag says. It cares what month it is.
Most of what goes wrong with a Cary or Apex lawn is timing. Here is the year the way we run it for a tall fescue yard on clay.
- Sep to OctThe window. Now Core aerate, overseed with a turf-type tall fescue blend, starter fertilizer, water lightly every day for two weeks. Miss this and you wait a year.
- Nov to DecLeaf cleanups on repeat, last mow around Thanksgiving, winterize irrigation before the first hard freeze. Second feeding for the new seed.
- Jan to FebQuiet. Pre-emergent for crabgrass by mid-February. Light shaping on crepe myrtles. Never topped.
- MarPine straw and mulch month. Second pre-emergent before the dogwoods finish. Mowing starts when the fescue does.
- Apr to MayWeekly mowing. Spring feeding, then stop. Fescue that gets fed in May burns in July.
- Jun to AugMow tall, water an inch a week before sunrise, watch for brown patch when the humidity sits. Do not fertilize. Do not seed. Just get it to September.

I started Gudgy Lawn & Grounds in 2019 with one mower and a trailer after ten years running crews for a bigger outfit in Raleigh. I grew up in Apex when Beaver Creek was still woods. I know which side of Kelly Road drains and which side does not.
We stay small on purpose. Eighty yards is what four people can do well. When we have room for more, this page says so, and right now it does.

Do I have to sign a contract?
No. Weekly service runs month to month. Stop any time with a text. Most people stay for years because the yard looks good, not because a form says they have to.
Fescue or bermuda? My builder did not say.
If it goes brown and straw-colored in winter and greens up in May, it is bermuda. If it stays green in January and thins out in August, it is fescue. Most yards west of US-1 are fescue. We will tell you on the walk, and it changes everything about the calendar.
My HOA has rules about cut height and edging.
Most of them do. Send us the landscaping section and we follow it. We already work under the rules in Scotts Mill, Sunset Ridge, Kitts Creek and a dozen others.
Can you take the tree down too?
We do not climb. We work with two licensed arborists and will get you their number. We handle the stump grinding cleanup, the regrade and the sod afterward, which is what happened in the Weatherstone yard above.
Why are you cheaper than the big company that mailed me a coupon?
